Some chats end and that's that. Others end with "we should do this again". On Chat AHOY you can — without either of you handing over a phone number or a social account. Here's how.
Your chat list and recent chats
Active chats live in your chat list. People you recently chatted with show up on your recent chats page, so you can find them again after a chat has ended. Heads-up: if you delete a chat, it leaves your list for good; there's no undo.
Contact requests
A contact request is how you say "I'd like to talk again". During a chat you can send one any time. With PLUS you can also send requests from someone's profile, or afterwards from your recent chats.
Two limits to know:
- There's a daily cap on how many requests you can send.
- To send one after a chat, the chat has to have lasted long enough. Very short chats don't qualify.
The other person can accept or ignore. If they accept, you're contacts and can find each other easily.
Why not just swap numbers?
You can, of course, but there's a good reason not to rush. Staying on Chat AHOY keeps the conversation moderated and the report button in reach. It also keeps your personal details away from someone you met an hour ago. Good rule: swap details when you'd be comfortable running into them in real life, not before.
Notifications keep the thread alive
Linked sign-in details to your account? Turn on push notifications for messages and contact requests in your notification settings. You'll hear about a reply even with Chat AHOY closed. See from guest to account.
When it doesn't work out
Someone who doesn't accept your request, or stops replying, isn't being rude — they just didn't feel the same. Don't send repeat requests; it comes across badly and burns your daily limit. There are always more people online.
Chats you'd rather forget
Delete the chat and it's gone from your list; you can't reopen it. If the other person broke the house rules, report before you delete so moderation can act.
