You don't need to register to try Chat AHOY. Start as a guest, chat for a bit, and decide afterwards whether the account is a keeper. Here's what a guest can do, how to turn it into a full account, and how to get pinged about new messages without living in the app.
Starting as a guest
Tap start as guest and you're in. A guest can do everything a free account can: discover people, chat by text and video, send photos and contact requests, and set up a profile.
The catch: a guest account lives in the browser or device you created it on. Clear your cookies or switch devices and it's gone, chats included.
Linking sign-in details
To keep the account, link sign-in details in your account settings. You can link:
- an email address,
- a phone number,
- one of the supported social media accounts.
Linking doesn't create a new account; it attaches a way to sign in to the one you already have. Your profile, chats and recent contacts stay exactly as they are. You can link more than one method — phone with one, laptop with another.
Signing in elsewhere
Once linked, sign in with the same details on any device and your account is waiting. PLUS, if you have it, is tied to the account, so it comes along too.
Notifications
With an account you can turn on push notifications for new messages and contact requests — per topic and per device, in your notification settings. There's also an optional daily summary email, so you can check what you missed once a day instead of keeping the tab open.
Deleting the account
Changed your mind? Delete your account from your account settings. Data and chats are removed after a seven-day cooling-off period.
Is a full account worth it?
If you plan to come back, yes. Recent chats and contact requests only pay off when your account sticks around, and notifications mean you won't miss a reply from someone you liked talking to. It takes a minute and you keep everything.
